Import scenes from a script or other tools

Bring in scenes from a script, Cinapse, Scriptation, or Think Crew

You don't have to type your scenes in by hand. From the project dashboard, find Add scenes and open the Import dropdown to choose a source:

  • From Script File for .pdf, .fdx, or .fountain scripts
  • CSV / Excel for .csv, .xlsx, or .xls spreadsheets
  • From Cinapse for .csv files
  • From Scriptation for .json files
  • From Think Crew for .uss files

Import from a script file

Choose From Script File and drag in your script. SetHero finds your scenes, cast, and page counts, and you can review everything before you import it.

Final Draft (.fdx) files give the most accurate results, including scene numbers and page counts. Numbered shooting scripts work best.

Note: Scanned PDFs aren't supported, and PDFs can be up to 600 pages. Cast is detected from dialogue, so non-speaking characters won't appear automatically.

Import from Cinapse

  1. In Cinapse, click the Reports icon in the top right corner and create a new report, choosing Shooting Schedule as the report type.
  2. Save the report, click Download CSV, and save the file.
  3. In SetHero, choose From Cinapse and drag in the file.

Import from Scriptation

  1. In Scriptation, open your script and tap the Tag icon in the header bar, then the Report icon.
  2. In the dropdown, select SetHero under App Exports, and save the .json file.
  3. In SetHero, choose From Scriptation and drag in the file.

Import from Think Crew

  1. In Think Crew, open the schedule you want to export.
  2. Click File, then Export, then Universal Schedule Standard (.uss), and save the file.
  3. In SetHero, choose From Think Crew and drag in the file.

Import from Movie Magic, Scenechronize, or another tool

Movie Magic Scheduling has its own exporter. Import from Movie Magic Scheduling covers each step.

There's no direct import for Scenechronize or other scheduling tools. If your tool can export a spreadsheet, save it as Excel or CSV and choose CSV / Excel instead. Import scenes from a spreadsheet explains how to match your columns, and Clean up your spreadsheet before importing can help if your file needs tidying first.
